By name and nature, The Chuan embodies the rich and layered terroir and local craftsmanship. In the unique terroir of Emei Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the year-round precipitation coupled with summer heat creates the exceptional environment for whisky making that increases the intensity of flavours with more evaporation. Chinese ingredients have been fused into the high standard of whisky making, such as the use of Chinese barley alongside European barley and the unique mastery of three types of oak from three continents helps define its complexity. Bourbon cask from America leads the elegant vanilla and fruity aromas, then the pronounced sweet overtones are derived from the sherry casks of Spain, creating a rich and full-bodied whisky. Finally, the proprietary 单岭 Chinese Single Oak casks imbues The Chuan whisky with a long finish of sandalwood and mandarin peel on the palate. The timber for the 单岭 Chinese Single Oak casks are logged from Northeast China’s famed and protected Changbai Mountain in extremely few quantities and expertly crafted into casks.
Pernod Ricard also announces the opening of The Chuan Malt Whisky Distillery Experience Centre, offering visitors an experiential and educational tour that immerses visitors into the craft of The Chuan malt whisky. Distinct elements in The Chuan craftsmanship are exquisitely threaded into the visitor experience so that visitors are enabled to fully embrace The Chuan’s uniqueness and authenticity through visuals effects, sound, touch, smell and taste.
